| | Introduction Broadcast Graduate is a jobs website aimed specifically at graduates in the broadcast field. It aims to be the leading service in this industry in the coming months. The website
launched in September 2008 and had many hundrerds of registered graduates within days. The site is free for graduates to register and companies pay for the opportunity to cherry pick the best graduates for
their open positions.
Technical Information The site is built using ASP.net with an SQL Server 2005 database. The site uses AJAX web services throughout to maintain the users experience and
efficiency. The site also makes use of some interesting Javascript animation effects which keeps it fresh and visually interesting for the users. There are three entity lifecycles to handle on the site,
the graduate regiatration process, the company registration process and the job application process. Each of these processes was carefully planned so that the relevant users get feedback at each stage via
visual feedback and email alerts from the site.
| | | | Introduction Having already worked with The Location Guide on a Benefits and Incentives module, I was then asked to do a full rebuild of their main website. The existing site had been live for a
number of years and had some major shortfalls in its design and implementation. Working closely with The Location Guide and a designer, we had a new site designed and built in a few months. The new site
offers a much more pleasant user experience and has vastly increased visitor numbers since its launch.
Technical Information The existing site was built using standard ASP connecting to an
SQL Server 2000 database. There was not much code to be salvaged (and the database need a big overhaul too) so I started the site from scratch using ASP.net. The site uses AJAX web services and also some
simple Javascript animation to keep it interesting. There is a forum on the site where people can post messages including images and have other people respond. The site used to be accessible only via a
login but that was removed for the main part to allow more people to visit. The forum and the paid for Benefits and Incentives sections are still controlled by a login. The site went live in mid 2008.
| | | | Introduction Having already worked with London based design agency This is Real Art, I was asked to do a full rebuild of their website. The existing site was a very basic one page site with a
Flash movie which showcased some of their digital work. They wanted a new site so that they could also showcase print, online and TV work as well as offering more information about the agency
itself.
Technical Information The site is developed in ASP.net with an SQL Server 2005 database. There is an extensive CMS which allows This is Real Art staff to upload and manage the
website content. The site is all based around a search box (there is no menu as such) so the search functionality was carefully planned to be as straight forward for the user as possible whilst maintaining
accuracy. It uses extensive Javascript animation. Infact, the entire site is actually one ASP.net page which animates into different designs depending on the content that the user is viewing. There is
full screen print and video functionality so the visitors to the site can see in greater detail the work done by the agency.
The site is due to be put live in December 2008

| | Introduction As Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of London based web video company Adjust Your Set, I oversaw the design and development of a Flash video player for the Royal Opera House in
London.
Technical Information The player was built using
Flash CS3 which connected to the BrightCove video hosting service for the video. There are a number of API functions used to
communicate with the BrightCove service from the player. The player went live in mid 2008. As an additional piece of functionality, we added subtitles to a full length Don Giovanni opera video. The video
content is managed by the client via an online console application.
| | | | Introduction Addidi is a weatlh management company for women. It provides information and certified financial advice for women who want to invest their wealth in a standard or unique way. The site offers case studies, interviews and secure hosting of the clients financial portfolio.
Technical information The site is built using asp.net and javascript. There is also a nice Flash animation used for the background of all pages. The site was designed by London based design agency This is Real Art and I worked closely with them throughout the development to ensure that the site matched their designs as closely as possible whilst remaining 'friendly' for all browsers and SEO. The site uses secure web services to access encrypted information from FinanceCube (the secure financial company used to host the client information). This information is then formatted and displayed on the members pages of the site.
| | | | Introduction Brightstar is a film currently being shot by Jane Campion. Working with the London based design agency This is Real Art, I developed this website which shows stills and text from the film production in a unique way.
Technical information The site is built using asp.net with an SQL Server database. The content is all managed by a bespoke CMS and the images are loaded dynamically onto the main page according to a matrix which gives a random effect. The site makes use of javascript animation and fading to enhance the experience for the user.

| | Introduction I was contacted by a design agency working for SKY One on the Gladiators programme and asked if I could build a video player for the website.
Technical Information I
used HTML elements with css and extensive Javascript code to program the player. The video content is hosted on the BrightCove video service and this player uses Javascript API code to interact with the
service and to pull down the required video information. This player went live in early 2008
| | | | Introduction As Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of London based web video company Adjust Your Set, I oversaw the design of and built an HTML based video player for MyDeco. MyDeco had an existing
video player which didnt meet their expectations so working closely with them, we designed and built a replacement.
Technical Information The player was built using HTML elements with an
array of Javascript API code to connect to a BrightCove video hosting service. The API functions lookup which videos should be displayed and also handle all of the video player functionality (play, pause,
scrub etc). The player was put live in mid 2008.
| | | | Introduction I worked on shots.net for a number of years which saw many redesigns and relaunches. Initially the site was a simple online directory of film and advertising companies but it evolved into a very complex and interactive website. The site now is primarily a showcase of the very best advertising creativity from anywhere in the world.
Technical Information shots.net is built using classic asp with an SQL Server 2005 database backend. There is an interface layer which handles the user interface and some XML translation. The second layer is the business layer where the complex rules for the video clips and directory information are maintained. Finally, there is the database layer which passes typed objects to and from the database and middle tier. The video clips played on shots.net are all Quicktime (.mov) files which are H264 encoded. There is a large javascript library which handles much of the user input validation, user triggered events and browser detection.

| | Introduction Tortue de Mer (Sea Turtle) is an online outlet for a shop based in Montpellier in France. They have a good relationship with a clothing manufacturer and wanted the ability to sell a
greater number of items via a website. They wanted the site to be as clean and simple as possible whilst showcasing the products that they have to offer.
Technical Information I used
ASP.net to build the site and SQL Server for the database. As well as the front end of the site, there is a comprehensive content management system enabling the client to manage their products effectively.
The CMS also allows them to view the transactions and manage various pieces of copy on the site. Initially they wanted to launch the site to see how it worked so they wanted to keep the payment method as
simple and cheap as possible. We decided to use PayPal for the payment management. I used the Instant Payment Notification method so that as soon as a transaction was put through PayPal, the client would
be alerted. The site is due to go live in December 2008
| | | | Introduction Omega TV is a web TV channel which promotes health and wellbeing. I was contracted by Omega TV to create a carousel element for their home page which would give visitors a quick way into the video content.
Technical information The carousel uses javascript libraries from Yahoo to control and populate the carousel. The videos displayed in the carousel are all hosted on the Brightcove system so I therefore used the Brightcove API to return the lists of videos required.
| | | | Note:The URL link for this site points to the main Christy Media site.
Introduction Christy Media manage a large number of contractors working mostly in the broadcast industry. They wanted a way of managing their contractors timesheets and expenses in an online, secure way.
Technical information This site is developed using an asp.net front end which connects to an SQL Server database. The interface between the website and the database is handled through AJAX and XMLweb services. The page updating occurs asynchronosly giving the user a nice, efficient experience.

| | Introduction Relentless is a Coca-Cola owned brand. It is an energy drink linked to extreme sports. This site is a consumer facing site which describes a bit about what the brand is about. It mainly uses video to get the message across although there is also a fully functional blog.
Technical information The site is written using asp.net with an SQL Server 2005 database. It uses AJAX web services to go to and from the database which provides a nice slick interface. The video is provided by a company called BrightCove. The website uses javascript API calls to control the video content and to initiate searches.
| | | | Introduction Initially, screendaily.com was a basic news site which delivered daily film news to its subscribers. However, the publishers of screendaily.com investigated new ways to increase their online presence in the marketplace which included the building of several new modules for the screendaily site. This included a box office module which displayed box office takings for the top 50 countries in the world. This information is published weekly and requires a very rigid content management system.
Technical information Screendaily.com was initially a classic asp.net website. However, during a comprehensive relaunch, it was decided to redevelop the site in asp.net which gave us the opportuinity to utilise many of the advantages of building websites on the .net platform. It uses an SQL Server 2005 database and ties in with a global usermanagement system and a WYSIWYG content management system.
| | | | Introduction Simiarly to screendaily.com, broadcastnow.co.uk began as a news only site. Much of the content on broadcastnow.co.uk was free to view and it aquired much of its revenue from online advertising. Following a significant redesign and relaunch, we added a number of new modules and functionality to the site including XML feeds and Podcasts. Technical information Broadcastnow.co.uk was developed originally in classic asp but was redeveloped using asp.net during a redesign. This enabled us to share much of the generic functionality of screendaily.com with broadcastnow.co.uk (the news and diary modules for example). This meant that the redevelopment of broadcastnow.co.uk was quite quick and very efficient. Broadcastnow.co.uk now has a very large paid subscriber base. | | |

| | Introduction The Locationguide.com already had an existing website and they asked me to develop a new module of paid for functionality. This new module enables film producers to search a global list of countries and regions to investigate the filming incentives and benefits offered.
Technical information I developed the Benefits and Incentives (B&I) module of thelocationguide.com in asp.net. I also built a comprehensive content management system which enables the website owners to continually update their content and manage their subscribers. The website uses Paypal to manage new registrations. Transactions are managed using Instant Payment Notification (IPN) so that after a user has paid, they are allowed access to the site immediately. The module has been a success with many subscriptions in the first months of being live including some from a number of large film companies.
| | | | Introduction The productionguide.co.uk is an online version of a printed directory of production companies for the film and TV industry.
Technical information I developed the website using asp.net which used an SQL Server 2005 database for the back end. Recently, ownership of the website has changed and I was asked to develop a new content management system which could be accessed from any location in the world. I decided that a desktop type system (rather than a web based interface) gave the most efficient method of managing their data so I developed a VB.net application which is delivered to the client PCs using 'click once' technology. This only requires the client machine having the .net (v2) framework installed and they can run the VB.net client application directly from the internet. This has been a success with the new owners running the application from many locations worldwide.
